Travel from magnificent old Portugal into regal Spain aboard the M/S Douro Princess. After visiting Lisbon’s historic sights, including Parque Eduardo VII, the cathedral, the Tagus and Belem Tower, sail to Salamanca, Spain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plaza Mayor, the oldest University of Spain, the Casa de las Conchas and the famous Roman bridge Puente Romano.



Days 1 – 2: Lisbon

1 Transfer from Lisbon International Airport to hotel.
2 Breakfast at hotel. Private full-day Lisbon city tour. Marquis de Pombal, Parque Eduardo VII, the Baixa and Rossio Station. St. Anthony’s Church, cathedral, the Tagus. Alfama district near the Praça do Comercio with triumphal arch. Bairro Alto, São Roque Baroque church. Free time for lunch.

Day 3: Porto

3 Breakfast at hotel, check out. Private transfer to Lisbon train station. First-class train to Porto Campanhã station. Private transfer to Porto Harbor. Embarkation and dinner on board.

Day 4: Lamego

4 MS Douro Princess leaves Porto and sails toward Régua. Folklore show on board.Optional program:

  • Excursion to Lamego*, an attractive town with Renaissance and Baroque mansions overlooked by two hills. Visit Gothic cathedral built by Afonso Henriques in 1129. City museum housed in 18th-century bishops’ palace, includes 16th-century Flemish tapestries.
  • Meals: Dinner.

Day 5: Pinhao

5 Morning relaxing on the sun deck.Optional program:

  • Visit to Pinhao and its train station, revered for its 25 tile panels that depict scenes, landscapes and customs of the Douro region.
  • Lunch at Quinta Avessada including wine.

Day 6: Salamanca

6 Optional program:

  • Visit to Salamanca, Spain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Guided walk through Plaza Mayor, the oldest University of Spain, the Casa de las Conchas, baroque church La Ciereria, old and new cathedral, famous Roman bridge Puente Romano.
  • Meals: Portuguese barbecue dinner on board.

Day 7: Regua

7 Morning relaxing on the sun deck. Arrival near Régua. Drive back through unique landscape: rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves.Optional program:

  • Excursion to Quinto do Seixo* to taste Portuguese wines.
  • Visit to Mateus Palace and Gardens, often described as the most fantastic country house in Portugal.
  • Visit to Douro Museum.

Day 8: Entre-os-Rios

8 Arrive at Entre-os-Rios. Afternoon sailing toward Porto.Optional program:

  • Visit ninth-century Monastery of Alpendurada, whose convent lounges have Roman and Moorish influences. Furniture and chandeliers date from the 17th and 18th centuries and the rare collection of restored carriages are part of the convent legacy.

Day 9: Viva Nova de Gaia

9 Arrival at Vila Nova de Gaia, neighbor city of Porto. Afternoon: free time or optional excursion to Guimaraes (bookable only on board), with guided walk through medieval houses and narrow alleys.Optional program:

  • City sightseeing through Porto, one of the oldest European centers and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Port wine tasting in one of the famous wine cellars.

Day 10: Porto

10 Disembarkation, transfer to Porto airport.

  • Accommodations in all outside cabins, each with private bathroom facilities, individual temperature control and large picture window
  • Three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) per day in the ship’s restaurant with the same menu for all passengers irrespective of cabin category; meal service begins with dinner on day of embarkation and ends with breakfast on day of disembarkation
